1. Our standard

OpenFundraise does not permit spam. Marketing email sent by OpenFundraise or through OpenFundraise must be permission-based, accurately identify the sender, provide a clear way to unsubscribe, and comply with the laws and provider rules that apply to the sender and recipients.

This policy applies to OpenFundraise's own marketing communications and to nonprofit customers using OpenFundraise communication tools. Transactional messages such as donation receipts, security notices, account alerts, and requested service messages are handled separately from marketing subscriptions.

2. Permission and consent

Marketing recipients must have affirmatively asked to receive the type of communication being sent. Senders should keep records showing when, where, and how each recipient provided permission and what the recipient was told at the time.

OpenFundraise customers are responsible for ensuring they have the required consent and authority before uploading, importing, selecting, or sending to an audience.

  • Use clear, unchecked opt-in choices or forms whose primary purpose is subscribing to the stated messages.
  • Identify the organization that will send email and describe the expected type or frequency of messages.
  • Do not treat a donation, purchase, event attendance, or other relationship as blanket permission for unrelated marketing when affirmative consent is required.
  • Use confirmation or double opt-in when appropriate, especially for new web signups or higher-risk lists.

3. Prohibited lists and practices

OpenFundraise's own marketing program does not use, and customers may not use OpenFundraise to send to:

  • Purchased, rented, scraped, harvested, or randomly generated email addresses.
  • Lists obtained from third parties that cannot provide reliable, recipient-level permission records.
  • Addresses that have unsubscribed, complained, hard bounced, or otherwise been suppressed, unless the recipient later makes a documented request to resubscribe where permitted.
  • Misleading audiences created through pre-checked boxes, hidden consent language, deceptive incentives, or another person's submission without confirmation.

4. Sender identity and message content

Messages must use accurate From, Reply-To, routing, and subject-line information. The sender's identity and the message's purpose must not be false or misleading.

Marketing messages must identify the responsible organization, include a working reply or contact path, provide the sender's valid postal address where required, and avoid deceptive claims or content prohibited by our Terms of Service.

5. Unsubscribe requests

Every marketing message must include a clear, functioning unsubscribe method. The process must be free, easy to use, and must not require a recipient to log in or provide information beyond what is reasonably needed to identify the subscription.

We expect unsubscribe requests to be applied as soon as practicable and within the time required by applicable law. A recipient may also request removal by emailing [email protected]. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent requested transactional or service messages that are still necessary for an account or donation.

Senders must not transfer or use an unsubscribed address for another marketing purpose except as needed to maintain a suppression record and honor the request.

6. Bounces, complaints, and list hygiene

Our operating policy is to stop marketing sends to addresses associated with hard bounces or spam complaints and to retain suppression information when the affected recipient can be identified. OpenFundraise customers must monitor and act on delivery feedback available through their sending setup.

Senders should validate imports, remove invalid addresses, use conservative volume ramps, avoid sudden sends to old or unengaged lists, and regularly review engagement and delivery quality. Complaint or bounce signals must not be ignored or repeatedly retried as marketing mail.

7. Monitoring and enforcement

We may review sending patterns, complaint or bounce information, consent evidence, message samples, and audience sources to investigate suspected abuse. We may pause or restrict communication features, suppress recipients, require remediation, or suspend or terminate an account that violates this policy, our Terms, provider rules, or applicable law.

A customer must cooperate with reasonable compliance requests and promptly correct practices that create recipient harm or sender-reputation risk.

8. Report unwanted email

To report an email that appears to have been sent through OpenFundraise without permission, forward the full message, including its headers, to [email protected]. Include the recipient address and any context about why the message was unexpected. We use this information to investigate, suppress further marketing where appropriate, and enforce this policy.
